Sister 2 Sister Footwear Design Seminar RECAP!!!

It was a great weekend in Boston! Nearly 20 females from NYC & Boston participated in this 1st ever, historic event! Ranging from girls still in HS & college, to customizers, & experienced designers, we all came together sharing our love of kicks & learned from some of the best female designers in the industry! Lori got together with D'Wayne Edwards of Jordan Brand, as well as top women designers from Sperry Top Sider, Reebok, Puma, Converse, and Nike to make this special event happen.

We started off with introductions & sketching what our vision of our very own sneakers would look like, and we couldn't use logos or similarities from existing brands. As a customizer I truly thought the process wasn't too tedious since I already design, but on already put together sneakers. I was wrong! My initial sketch had the shape of a griffey max and it really wasn't what I was aiming for. However, with some help from the designers, I was able to create a better form for the sneaker as well as details like piping, canvas and textured leather!

Each presentation was as unique as the participant behind it! We all took on a foreign task and came out on top!

Thank you to all of the designers who took their time out for us and shared priceless technique and tips! Welcome Sarah Sabino aka "S4" to our Boston team, and a very special extra thanks goes to you Lori for always representing & being a voice for the ladies!

D'Wayne Edwards Design Interview

Check Counterkicks for an interesting interview with D'Wayne Edwards, the Creative Operations Manager at JORDAN Brand. He's the man behind Future Sole, and he's been invaluable in putting on this weekend's Sister2Sister event. Thanks D. As an experienced designer, he's ready to make room for more women and people of color in the industry. Let's do it! (And applicants, get those designs in!)

This is just pure laziness

Velcro straps on a blazer=lazy. There is no reason for an adult sneaker to have Velcro straps on it unless you're 60 plus. This idea just ruined a perfectly good shoe. :(

What is it about the Foamposites?

Seriously fiends help a sista out!! What is it about a foamposite that makes people go wild for them? Every time I look at them, I think "well these would be the perfect shoes for me if I was going to the moon." Does it make you perform better when playing ball? Please answer my burning question!

Size? + adidas Originals = Happiness

Having tons of work to do, I happily got sidetracked for a while on the Size? website, looking at their lovely collection of adidas original "trainers". (Do I sound British?) Here are just a few that caught my eye... (Warning, most do not come smaller than a UK6.)

Here are my new favorites:

Trimm-Trab

In the same old-skool suede genre, I also loved these:

The Sneeker

With the same mood but a different twist, I went with this midtop version of the Samba:

Samba Mid

And then getting back to my Boston bball roots, I picked these Top Tens!

Top Ten Hi NBA

Now back to work....sigh....
