Girls Got Kicks Book Tour Bodega Stop

No way Girls Got Kicks would be half as good without fab photographer Amanda Lopez! It was great to have her come out to the East Coast for our Boston and NYC parties.

Bodega is always a great spot to have an event at, and we're proud to say GGK brought in a lot of first time customers...

Like Imani...

and Elena...

But not these featured artists, Sarah Sabino (L) and Olmis Sanchez, who took time off from working at other sneaker stores (shhhhh) to come celebrate the book!

New Girls Got Kicks tees for sale at events (and coming soon on the website!)

Thanks Bodega, and everyone who came through! And thanks to Amanda who sent these pics. For more shots from the party, click here. For updates on the next tour stops, click here.

Nike & TIFF Presents: The Anatomy Of An Urban Legend

As part of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Nike hosted an invite-only screening of "The Anatomy Of An Urban Legend" - the documentary dissecting Nike's top-selling sneaker, the Air Force 1. Tuesday night marked the second time the film has been publicly screened since its completion last year. After a few words from Bobbito Garcia and NHL player/"Nike: Always On" spokesperson, P.K. Subban, and Toronto emcee, Saukrates, the film was introduced by the director himself, Thibaut de Longeville.

More photos and a video after the jump...

Windy City Sole Sneaker Summit!

Females of the Windy City Sole Summit!

On September 3rd, 2011 Windy City Sole held the first annual Windy City Sole Sneaker summit where you could buy, sell, trade and see some rare sneakers that you wouldn't normally see! And I was there to bring you all the details on how the ladies and fellas of the Chi held it down!!

First up to bat we have Vintage Pot which is led and owned by the one and only Brenda Bee!

Brenda and her hubby had a table full of MTTM, Johnny Cupcakes x Hello Kitty, Vintage Bulls Championship gear and not to mention for the sneakerhead mommies out there she had OG jordans, nikes and many others for the up and coming sneakerhead in your life!

Next up we had the wonderful Ms. Carmen Carlos who was killing it with the Air Jordan V Tokyo 23's! She was murdering chicks and fellas all afternoon with the heat she had on!!

Carmen's table had nothing but Jays for days!! Everyone was so impressed with her table I have to admit I was taken aback when I saw her from across the room rocking those vibrant Toyko 23's!

Here are some photos from the rest of the summit! I can't wait to see it all happen again next year!!!

New Flava for your ear: Grow up-Ida Divine

I first got put on to Miss Ida Divine from the homie RoyalTee when he and Ida opened for Raekwon a few months ago. Now I can't stop playing her ish! Her song "Grow Up" has a little Lauren Hill element to it but it still sticks with Ida's original style. Check it out...

Ladies and Gents I would like for you to

give a hey girl hey to our newest blogger Maria Elena aka Miss SnkrDivaMob! I first met Maria on the wonderful world twitter a few months ago. She has a dope collection of kicks, nail polishes and Married to the Mob tees. Peep her interview....

1) Who are you and what city do you rep?

I am Maria Elena a.k.a SnkrDivaMOB and I from the City of Wind Chicago!

2) When did you start collecting?

I started collecting back in about 2000, basically when I was old enough to get my name on a payroll check! haha

3) What's your favorite pair?

My favorite pair of Jordans are Jordan XIII Aquas and in Nikes my favorite
pair are the Tiffany Dunks

4) What's the sneaker scene out in the Chi?

The sneaker scene here in Chicago is amazing! We have all heads from all corners of Chicago who love and appreciate the sneaker movement and community. Respect is given to all sneakerheads from the suburbs to the inner city soleheads which will always amaze me. I love it!

Welcome to the team girl! :)

FSF wins first ever Frshr than your Avrge Sneaker Battle!

For their first ever Frshr than your Avrge Sneaker Battle,
Bloodline Fresh went all out with their trophy and prizes.

They also had a lot of dope local vendors, like Fam Jwlz...

And they supported this cool sneaker customizing project at Marshall Middle School called the Walkin' the Tightrope Project. Here's the winner, Shanelle, posing with her trophy and her kicks.

The Walkin' the Tightrope Project had sneaker cut-outs to design for our younger guests...

This was my favorite tee at the Inov8 table.

These were the deadstock Ewing Rogue IIs I broke out for the battle...

Every round was head-to-head, crowd vote.

Here's me with the trophy and the good peeps from Bloodline Fresh
and co-sponsor GC Skateshop in West Roxbury.

The Ewings brought it home!

It was a great first round of Frshr than your Avrge. Keep your eye out for round 2 in NYC! Many thanks to all the sponsors, and to fellow FSFer who came up from NYC to help out and check out the Beantown scene...

New Pickup #4: Nike SB denim dunks

I have been on a roll with my pickups eh? Let's hope I can keep it up (here's looking at you economy) lol. My latest pickup are these sweet Nike denim Dunk hi's. I've have been chasing after these bad boys since February and almost had no luck getting them. Well 2 weeks ago while strolling around on Bergen St in Brooklyn, I passed by this skateboard shop called Homage and BAM there they were! My denim SB's! Unfortunately they weren't on sale(womp womp) but the fact that Homage had them in my size, I didn't even care about the price.

They look so sweet on my feet! #saveslives

Goddesshood: New Art by The Younity Collective

Our favorite all female urban art collective, YOUNITY, presents GODDESShood: Our Land is Our Jewel, an art exhibition that will feature 10 artists in conversation with the themes mother earth, the hood and sustainable farming.

Opening on Saturday, September 10, from 2pm – 5pm at the Yonkers Riverfront Public Library, during the annual Yonkers Riverfest event, the project utilizes urban art as a platform for visual discourse on sustainable agriculture, food systems, food justice, and mother earth, and closes on Sunday, December 4th, 2011. Additional programming in the City of Yonkers and at Sarah Lawrence College will take place throughout fall 2011, including youth workshops and a panel discussion.
