Sneaker Freaker Sneaker Freaker Sneaker Freaker!

Sneaker Freaker continues to be my favorite sneaker site (besides FSF, of course!), and here are 3 great new reasons to visit:

1) Their Best of the Best 2009 included all kinds of interesting selections, not to mention some friends and family of FSF-- Cecilia Mims the killer customizer of Saigon Customs, Cim Froeling the fearless store owner of No Boys Allowed and our very own Amanda Lopez, photographer extraordinaire! (She's the photographer on the first FSF book, the upcoming Girls Got Kicks.)

2) They just published their own Top 25 review of 2009, and not surprisingly, it's chock full of variety, taste and delightful surprises! (Okay, I'm not a Yeezy fan, but look deeper!) Woody's got a wonderful sensibility and is not afraid to take his kicks off the beaten path... thanks SF!

3) They found an amazing tapestry artist, Emma Sulzer, right there in Melbourne. Check out her collection of woven kicks... Incredible!

From the Mailbag...

Hi all,
I regularly get emails from first time visitors on FSF. They always remind me not to take for granted the amazing community that girls and women have built here, and what it means when new members find us! This is why we're here.... Happy New Year!

"Hi, my name is Brea and I would like to be interviewed or contribute to your website in some fashion. I am asking this because I am a 13 year old sneakerhead and it seems like every time I talk to my friends about sneakers that I want or that are releasing, I feel like I am speaking a foreign language to them. I just want to talk to another female sneakerhead that I can relate to. All the girls at my school wear all those flats and stuff and I feel like a misfit. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing, but I can't be the only one or are there really more important things that a teenager worries about? Boys are interesting for only so long. Why waste my time on them when there's a new shoe that I could be reading up about? Plus, they're all the same at this age, so I really don't care about any of them. Look, all I want is to talk to someone I can relate to and I think this would be the perfect opportunity to talk to another lady in the game. I know my kick collection isn't packing too much heat, but my shoes mean everything to me and every single sneaker I have has a story behind it. Thank you for your time and thank you for reading this. I hope I get to talk to you soon!"

We got you Brea! Hang in there!

Air Jordan Force Fusion VIII (AM1 + AJVIII)

A brand new Air Jordan Fusion arrives in this 2010. This kick combines the AF1 midsole and outsole with the AJ VIII upper. A nice combination that we can find in stores in the next weeks, with two different colorways: black with blue details and white with black and red ones.

Nike women Air Force 1 Hi Supreme LE

Happy New Year and Happy New Kicks is what Nike is telling us with these awesome sneakers. The Air Force 1 Hi Supreme LE features gold detailing over black pattern leather crocodile print with canvas ankle strap.

It´s great to see this kind of colorway and print in women's sizes; times are changin'!

An ILL Banger New Year's Eve!

Behind the Scenes @ the NIKE Destroyer Shoot

"On a cold and rainy December day in New York City, a small and eclectic group of people gathered together to take part in a photoshoot for the NIKE Destroyer Project.
The shoot highlights this group as the 'new school' of folks who contribute to the ever-changing landscape of New York, represented by each of them wearing the special black edition Destroyer Varsity."

The group includes: Jack Greer, Aaron Bobrow, Simonez Wolf, Brandee Brown, Lucien Smith, Ricky Saiz, Chris Shonting, Jake Sumner, Kevin Kearney, Scott Campbell, Dee & Ricky, Vashtie, Curtis Kulig and Tim Brodhagen

Photographed by Kai Regan, video by Vashtie. If you're not in the know, get there. Vashtie is an artist, filmmaker and designer. Remember that dope video for US Placers a couple years back? Yup, all her. FSF interviewed her a while back, so learn more about her and her love of kicks here.

S-beezees, Cliff Huxtable styles

He's one of TV's all-time fave Pops. So why not design a Dunk as a throwback to his fully-stocked closet of wild-out sweaters?

These Nike SB "Wool" Dunk Hi Premiums are now available online at Kasina.

"All of you who do not have a job, raise your hands. And while you have your hands up, I want you to look down because for guys who aren't working, I'm seeing expensive sneakers."
- Cliff Huxtable, The Cosby Show ("For Men Only" episode)

BITCH3S...new blog about women in hip hop

I'm not a big fan of the word bitch, but occasionally it is reclaimed by women and put to good use. I like BITCH Magazine, and in fact wrote an FSF story for them once. Now I've found a new use of the word, the blog BITCHES, which stands for Bold Individuals That Challenge Hiphop'crisy En Style. It is a space for girls who represent the five elements of hip-hop culture, and it includes some great interviews about kick ass women in graffiti, hip hop, and more. Check them out...

Welcome Loni & Sonia to the FSF blog team!

We've already posted about Sonia Sanchez, lead blogger for Spain's Zapateca website, adding her 2 cents to our blog, but now we've also roped in Loni Schick, an avid sneakerhead from up north--Saskatchewan, Canada to be exact! Here's what she has to say:

"What's good Fiends? I'm a Photographer/Blogger from Saskatchewan, up in Canada. I gotta thank my boy, Danny O., for igniting my love for the sneak game. These are probably the first wild set I bought. I copped em in LA and got so much love rocking them down the Vegas strip. To me, that's what being a FSF is all about: being comfortable and being able to let everyone know just how dope you are without having to say a word."

Look forward to more worldwide sneaker coverage from FSF!

Houston inspired Jordans release at HOH Chicago!

Houston stand up! Initally created for the Houston House of Hoops grand opening, these 4 pairs of Jordans will travel to Chicago to be released this Saturday at HOH!! The 4 pairs are 2 Retro I’s, a Fusion 4, and a Fusion 13. The white-based Retro I and Fusion 4 have a single star on the heel of the insole like the flags of Houston and Texas, while the Fusion 13 features the nickname of Houston: “Space City.” If kicks are on the list for Christmas, you need to revise to add these!

Grey/Orange Air Max Lebron VII

I am in love with the new Lebron VII's and am anxiously waiting for the Chicago/NYC green/white/gold colorway to drop! Now I have another colorway that I must have! Although it is patent leather, this pair screams sneaker game on point! I imagine not too many people would know how to rock these properly, but dammit I would! These are just a teaser sample from designer Jason Petrie who must know my flavor because these are so hot! Hopefully 2010 will bless us with this colorway!

Nine West X New Balance

New balance and Nine West have come together to form a nice little line for the ladies. The line features, Edek and Adapted.
I like the idea of these two brands collaborating. The line is cute and girly with out being overly girly. They do have the pink in there but they also have other colors.
Check out the website for more styles and to check out the NWBI lifestyle.

Adapted, $89

Edek also $89

High Top Holidaze at FSF!

Bo Jackson Air Trainer SC

One of the things we love at FSF is the diversity of styles that ladies rock (and rock well!)-- from shiny metallics to subtle suedes, from girly skippies to beefy Lebrons. We also represent many lands and cultures, so we know that folks celebrate all kinds of holidays, all year long. With this spirit in mind, I teamed up with lead blogger Amonee to offer some thoughts on holiday shopping, even if we are limited to our Northeast U.S. perspective of wanting to hibernate with some cozy kicks for the winter! We went for a High Top Holidaze theme. Enjoy! The full spread is HERE.
