Cali Love exhibit by Amanda Lopez

Amanda Lopez is a tremendously gifted photographer who some might recognize from her fantastic photos in our upcoming Girls Got Kicks book. Her ability to capture a person's spirit and sense of identity is amazing.

Inspired by the dia de los muertos (day of the dead) celebration, CaliLOVE, Amanda’s latest body of photographic work addresses more than the concept of death. Instead, Lopez’s portraits reveal and celebrate the preciousness of life. The artist’s first series captured completely indoors, CaliLove addresses the vastness of human experience and individuality. Viewers are called to witness the unique reactions and idiosyncrasies comprising the process of living as well as each individual’s way of coping with the uncertainty of life in the face of death. Within each photograph, CaliLOVE aims to capture this juncture between life, death and the everyday choices that define who we are and where we are headed.

FresHER is almost here!

This show's gonna be off the hook. The all-female art collective promises to transform the space into an eco-funhouse of raw materials and street art. Elements such as graffiti, photography, design and construction will be used to connect ideas about consumerism, environmentalism, health, and renewable energy. FRESHER! features main-stay YOUNITY artists such as Lady Pink, Martha Cooper, and AIKO, while introducing almost 40 emerging artists such as China Morbosa and Amanda Lopez. (Who is the artist for FSF's upcoming Girls Got Kicks book!) YOUNITY Co-Founders and artists, Alice Mizrachi and TOOFLY, continue to push the collective to new levels of creativity, and I'm excited to see their "fresh" take on green! As Toofly says, “Look at recent events that are affecting us and the next generation: the economy, global warming and healthcare; this is the perfect time to put on a show like FRESHER! and express our creative desire to promote green living and the improvement of our community.”

Here it is, the first professional femalesneakerfiend photo shoot, and the first step of a great collaboration with the talented Amanda Lopez. This photo shoot is building towards a magazine spread and future FSF book plans, and we're looking for a wide variety of girls and women with a passion for their kicks. Vans Series--Amanda Lopez photo exhibit

For those of you lucky enough to live on the West Coast (of the US), check out Amanda Lopez's first gallery exhibit of the very cool True Story: the Vans Shoe Series. These self-portraits of sorts are taken across the world during her travels to Los Angeles, Pinar del Rio, Mexico City, Havana and Teotihuacan. It's a figural self-portrait, a diary, almost a graf-like proof that "hey, I was here". Thought of in reverse, it's a Vans version of "Where's Waldo?"... Enjoy!
