Vans Series--Amanda Lopez photo exhibit

For those of you lucky enough to live on the West Coast (of the US), check out Amanda Lopez's first gallery exhibit of the very cool True Story: the Vans Shoe Series. These self-portraits of sorts are taken across the world during her travels to Los Angeles, Pinar del Rio, Mexico City, Havana and Teotihuacan. It's a figural self-portrait, a diary, almost a graf-like proof that "hey, I was here". Thought of in reverse, it's a Vans version of "Where's Waldo?"... Enjoy!

Today is International Transgender Day of Remembrance

Some of the youth I work with are going to a vigil for Rita Hester, who was brutally killed in Boston ten years ago for being a transgendered woman. I can't go, because I have a work event tonight. They asked me what I was going to do to honor the Day of Remembrance. So I'm posting this to honor the day and the youth who teach and inspire me everyday. What sneakers should come out in smaller sizes?

Looking for the latest Tier Zeros? What about the sweet adidas or NBs pictured in the next posts? Some of us just need to be in the right place at the right time with the right cash. (Not that that's so easy these days...)

BUT OTHERS HAVE NO CHANCE WHATSOEVER! Thousands of girls are totally ignored by the sneaker industry based on the size of their feet. They're the ones sleeping out to get Jordan Packs or special releases, only to find out they might as well resell them cuz they're 3 sizes too big. Or they're making the most of it, getting good deals on kid size kicks, but also knowing there are many that they'll never get.

So we gotta get sneaker companies to understand, to believe, to recognize. What can we do? Click HERE to go to the FSF petition for exclusive kicks to come out in smaller sizes. Sign the petition, and in the comments tell us how you feel, and exactly what sneaker you wish would come out in what size. We promise to pass this information on to all the major sneaker companies. We already have thousands of signatures, but let's go for 8,000 in 08. Show 'em we mean it! Spread the word! I think they're starting to hear us...

New Balance "Outdoor Jacket" MTG580...

Wow, these upcoming MTG580s from New Balance are sweeeeet. I love them all. These are allegedly inspired by outdoor jackets (not to mention the current rage for all-one-color kicks, which I really like). Great materials (including waterproof goretex), great colors and textures...you even get both regular laces (my choice) or bungee style ones with lace locks. The folks at Streething say these are only gonna be available in Southeast Asia in January. I hope we get them a little closer!

OSD Ambassador Program Overview:

The OSD Ambassador Program (OSDAP) enlists sneaker personalities and enthusiasts from around the United States and the world to cover the sneaker-scene, from their perspective and on their community, all-the-while allowing their personality to shine through.

The video footage must be filmed (mini-DV or Hard Drive) and edited by the Ambassador, edited and featured on one or both OSD video channels— www.o-s-d.tv and www.wosd.tv.

Why should YOU become an OSD Ambassador?

Because it's a great way to get you film career off the ground by documenting a topic that has far reaching interests.

We Did it!!!

Yes history is finally being made!!!! I never thought this day would come. And thanks to us, we have finally have an African-American President!!!!!

I AM PART OF HISTORY!!!!

Ladies & Gents! Boys & Girls! Dogs & Cats!!! I JUST VOTED!!!!! AND LET ME TELL YOU..IT FELT SOOOOOOO GOOOOD!!!!! I had to be at work this morning at 6am so I could not do it this morning. While I was at work all I kept thinking about was casting my ballot for Obama and history! After the event that I worked, a co-worker and I had to pick up a truck in Northern New Jersey and GOT LOST!!! I was freaking out because I still had to do a report once I got back to my office! I got back to the office around 4pm, finished the report by 6pm, and started to help my co-worker get ready for our event tomorrow when...our van started to act like it was on strike!!! I then had to call our fleet manager and troubleshoot what was wrong with our recently serviced van, which took another half hour!!!! Once we got the van back on point, I then turned to my co-worker and told her we had to go! I had to drive her home because she didn't drive in, and she lives in Manhattan while I live at the top of The Bronx!!! Once I dropped her off and told her to go straight to the polls, I hit 70mph on the FDR Drive to get to the polls myself! All I kept seeing in my head were those long lines televised all week from the early voting states and said to myself, "Self, we are about to be part of history! No matter how long that line is we are going to stand on it, make new friends, chat with old friends, and LIKE IT!" Well, when I arrived on my block around 8:15pm, I was met with surprise..NO LINE!! Whew! I just rushed myself on in there with a smile and told the lady my name so I could finally make it happen! Folks..today was probably the most memorable day in my life..better than any birthday or holiday I can remember. This election means so much to me and millions of others..I could not and did not let anything stand in my way!

GET OUT THE HOUSE Photo Contest

We get lots of photos of sneakers and sneaker fiends at FSF, but this month we're looking for something different: "GET OUT THE HOUSE!" is our November photo contest, and we mean it. Show your sneakers a good time! Take them somewhere nice...

Here are the contest rules:

1) Take a quality photo of your sneakers somewhere you love (or have someone else take it if the kicks are on your feet). It could be in nature, in action or just around the way, but a spot that has meaning for you.
