adidas steals at Harputs!

It used to be that I had to wait eagerly for my next trip to San Fran in order to get over to Harputs for my vintage adidas fix. That place is an old school heaven, and I'm still bargaining to see their back room! Of course, now that they have their online game up and rolling, I have to say it's dangerously easy to ring up the bills over there!
Recently they had an irresistible half off sale, and I kicked in for those beautiful Material of the World Attitude hightops. Not vintage, but just one of the best high tops in recent memory.
When they sent me the wrong size (grrr, they sent the women's sneaker not the men's), they were so kind as to send me a free gift to make up for the error.

Wow! LOVE THAT. Now I had to go and order the matching kicks, cuz they were on sale for $28!!!
See what I mean? You gotta check them out.... www.harputs.com Or get over there in person if you can!

Made Me Clothing

"You either know this girl or you are this girl – rock a pair of Jordan’s by day and
Gucci’s by night... Erin Magee, creator and designer of MadeMe, has formulated a refreshing maturity and quality to women’s streetwear."
It seems everyone is launching a womens streetwear line this season. Here is the first preveiw of Made Me designed by Erin Magee who is also Productions manager at supreme. She is trying to do what many female streetwear brands are not: bring sophistication and attract an older more mature customer (like me, I am thirty) who appreciates thier streetwear Roots but desires clothing with a little more sex appeal and high fashion.
Erin Magee got her start in fashion over 4 years ago, managing the successful collaboration between designer Kim Jones
and sports brand Umbro creating an exclusive, high-end streetwear collection. Since then she has styled editorial and
video shoots for a multitude of musicians and top tier publications. Over two years ago, Magee joined the world famous
Supreme brand as Production Manager. Here is a short Interview with Erin:

What is your favorite all time sneaker?
EM: Jordan 11 - patent leather black and white

What sneaker do you wish you owned?
EM: The original Air Max 95 (grey/neon green). I USED TO HAVE THESE!!! I
threw them out so long ago...and always wish I had them back!

How many sneakers are in your current rotation?
EM: Probably 10

In which shops can we expect to find MadeMe this fall?
EM: Valley NYC, UNION NYC, Atmos, Reed Space, GreyOne, Cultist
Shop.....mademeclothing.com

Where are you from, and how long have you been in NYC?
EM: I am from Toronto, Ontario - CANANDA! I have been in NY since 1999.

The collection includes two contrasting denim looks, leggings, graphic t-shirts,
hoodies and stylized leather bomber jackets.
The debut collection, “First to Fall” was inspired by America’s obsession with celebrity. The literal translation of our
unhealthy fascination with celebrity is expressed through MadeMe’s line of super soft t-shirts with screen-printed graphics.
The collection’s premier tee is adorned with an airbrushed photo of Marilyn Monroe taken by Bert Stern during her last photo
shoot, for Vogue, six weeks before her death. Other prints include the “Paris is Burning” tee, named after a documentary
film chronicling the New York’s gay club culture. Created from a collage of New York Post headlines over a six-month
period illustrating America’s infatuation with celebrity culture. Rounding out the collection is the “Virgin Tee” and the “Lips
Tee” – both of which are purely honoring Magee’s main inspiration – Madonna.

ST33 coming out with its 4th quarter shoe

For those of you keeping track, this version finishes up New Balance's first year of their exclusive Super Team 33 project. (Wow, that went by fast!) As the final set, this one is from the Asia/Pacific region, and the sneaker designers there have decided to use the three models to celebrate the elements: earth, wood, fire, metal and water. On the heel of each shoe is the Chinese character representing that element. The "fire and metal" 1400 shoe honors the role of fire as it refines metal, "earth and wood" pays homage to our planet and its ability to nurture all living things, and "water" (my favorite), is a stand alone tribute to the power of water. Here it is:

Yea, I think they really outdid themselves on these! Just gorgeous works of art. Still no word about the smallest sizes, but they should go down to at least a size 7 men's.

ST33 earth and wood

The second shoe in this series honors earth and its ability to support all life. The shoe includes beautiful touches from heel to toe...

ST33 fire and metal

And the final ST33 in this set celebrates fire and metal, and fires power to shape metal. On the heel of one shoe is the Chinese character for fire, while the other represents metal. And like the others, fine details abound.

Yup, these are fire! See you Oct 20th...

snek atak 2 hits boston!

Last night was Boston's 2nd Snek Atak, and this one put the first to shame. This time 24 artists paired up to go head to head with their imaginations and skills on the line. The winner of each battle got to keep both pairs of shoes, but really they were battling for respect. You know Boston is just a big town, so a win is a WIN. The battles were judged by me and the Weekly Drop guys (well, really me and Jeff, with Rob helping out on tie-breakers, and Frank having to leave early). They were judged on originality, scope and completion of concept, and technical skill.
(Sneakers compliments of the adidas originals store in harvard square, and some of their nice staff came down to support the event as well...) Oh, and the guys at the Good Life were cool, and the place was P-A-C-K-E-D. Boston's looking up...
Problak took a familiar concept to the nth degree! He went back to junior high "all day I dream about sex" and updated it for the evening crowd. These kicks had everything from a waterbed to sleep on (with a mirror on the "ceiling") to vibrators (that worked) in the tongues! The paint job was beautiful, the adidas condoms were a nice touch and the whole thing was a hoot. Nice work! Winner.

This transformer was the only truly unwearable sneaker. Is it a sneaker? But damn, it was HOT!!! Winner.

Folks were really feeling the ipod in the tongue, with sewed in zipper. The overall concept was all over the map, but it still held on for a win.
These ones were gorgeous, even in dim lighting. the lettering was outstanding (hard to see in the pic I'm afraid), the box was clean and the idea was great. This is the Boston skyline gone speaker system, for you out of towners! I had to fight Jeff for this win.

Problak and the aforementioned working vibrator.

snek atak part 2

more pics from Snek Atak 2...

adi was a beautiful loser

This one got dinged for its lack of box decoration, but the art was fabulous. (It lost to Rob's sexy shoes!)

Jeff didn't like seeing the old ninja turtle, but we both admired the amazing technique. This was a winner.
The texture on Kerry's midsoles were amazing! The weeklydrop guys said Kerry couldn't win cuz it was his show...

Kerry, the host, from Proletariat in Harvard Square. Unfortunately you can't see my fresh new Clawburger shirt! I love it.

heyday for women

alright, we need some sneakers up in here!
Sorry I've been very absent on the blog lately. I've been getting my butt kicked trying to put the finishing touches on a big redesign of the website. should be coming SOON! But meanwhile, the kicks don't stop, the parties don't stop...so I'll do a lil posting!
Here are the first round of Heydays for the women. If you haven't seen Heyday, it's a new company that specializes in that sneaker/shoe/workboot look (ala Fiet), but it has its own spin on this trendy mixed-genre. Check it out. I love the colors, but mainly just that someone actually got an original look out these days. Not easy to do! nice logo, pretty soles, and great attention to detail.
The designer is Darin Hager, who's done some designing with puma, reebok, perry top-sider and some other folks before he went out onto his own. Oh, and he's a sweetheart too. Go to his website and you can see a pic of his 2 week old son reppin' the brand! (gotta scroll down to 8/8 on the blog). You can also see all the fun men's stuff, but it only goes down to an 8 =(

I think these are the ones I'd wear! (above)

I like hightops, but these are too girly for me.

These are the funnest. I don't think I could pull them off, but they're my favorites.
